Anyone who rates the holiday destination by the how close to the beach the hotel is should head for Jeri as you hotel wont be near the beach but on it. Jeri is one of those places you have to experience to believe, “streets of sand and no roads for miles” are images that don’t always fill your mind with thoughts of luxury and yet walking along them feels like a privilege.
The dirt road where I walk the dog sprang to mind the first time I heard of this place, an image that doesn’t go away when you arrive in the early hours after two flights and a four-hour taxi ride. Sand and dirt look the same as it passes quickly under the gaze of the cars headlights, you don’t even get to feel it as the shoes of home mask its magic as you take those few weary steps towards bed.
The best way to see Jeri for the first time in from a beach buggy in the light of day and simplest way to do that is a two-stop holiday. Staying a few nights in Icaraizinho is the perfect set-up for Jeri, it’s closer to the airport for starters but it’s the journey between the two that’s the real winner, the longest buggy ride you’ll ever do.
Crossing the two rivers on rafts are just two of the highlights that’ll say with you but nothing beats that last blast along the beach to remove all thoughts of dirt before you trundle along it’s streets. Jeri has a magic you can’t ignore whichever way you arrive but thanks to Club Ventos it felt like we had front row seats with David Copperfield.
