The long journey from Tiree to Weymouth ensured I missed the first day of speed week, not that there was much to miss. The wind hardly rose above zero for the weekend, a shame for the kids as that’s the only time they get to use the course before heading back to school. Monday morning on the other hand was like a workday, if you’re a speed sailor that is.
Only joking about the work, sailing or taking pictures it doesn’t really figure out like a proper job, trust me my kids are constantly reminding me “why do we have to work if Dad doesn’t). Though to my defence, standing behind the lens when its windy definitely feels like work.
That wasn’t the case this week, for the most part it was big sails and this is when I’m happiest to be stood on the shore camera in hand. That said there were a couple of time when it started to look good and I got suckered in to thinking it was time to get on board.
I jumped on Ant’s kit for a couple of runs late Monday, two on the 7.8 then we swapped on the water to give the 7.0 a run. Underpowered and struggling to start but once up it felt so much nicer, more like speed than racing, I managed one more run before the course closed.
Ant was kind enough to point out I hadn’t been out in the best conditions when the top runs were done but any disappointment soon disappeared when I saw Guy Cribb. Sorry but it feel good to take his picture and speed on the same day, sorry guy J
