Pick your Fear

1/08/2012

Last weeks blog soon had a rush of emails filling my inbox full but if I had to sum them up I’d have to say there were all about fear. I’ve had my fair share of incidents and accidents and everyone carried its fair share of fear, lets be honest, those who live with out it are seldom on this world for long.

Fear for everyone is different and I’ll be honest my cancer has to go down as my most fearful peak. While a car crash seems to run is slow motion the truth is that moment of true fear is over as quickly as the accident, you never get time to take in the severity of the situation adrenalin brings a smile to your face.

Those first moment after being told you have cancer have a real similarity to the entry of a crash but as the world speeds up again your mind doesn’t seem to be able to compute the positive outcomes as quickly as the negative rush in and there’s not adrenalin to dull the feeling.

Ten years on and you’d think it would be a thing of the past but somehow this is one crash than never seems to have come to rest. Now don’t think I’m being morbid, in some ways it was the best thing to happen to me, no I’d never choose it but it changed so much of my life.

I don’t think it changed my outlook on life but it did help those around me to see it my way. A lecture from my wife quickly followed every accident but cancer made her realise you don’t always get to choose when it’s your time, so why not enjoy the time you have, which this week just happened to be at Seapulin in Norfolk.
