ClubVass

11/07/2011

Can’t help feeling a little nostalgic when ever I return to ClubVass but without that week here in 1990 life could have been so different, most of us have an experience that is pivotal moment and my was entering the Vass Class. While I can say the rest is history I wonder if this week will see Vass have the same impact on my Son’s life.

While I was here for speed week Reece was taking his instructors exam, thanks both Flying Fish and ClubVass Reece has just spent a month in training and seeing he passed at the end of the week, the training must have worked. Obviously I’m stoked he passed but I guess the selfish streak in me received the biggest reward, Reece not only passed but his windsurfing has really come on, I’m no longer sailing along side him but blasting flat out with him.

The first time I brought Reece out here was for his 14th birthday and we’ve been coming back every year as a family for speed week. Aaron has now turned 14 and giving windsurfing more of a go, hopefully seeing his brother sail for more than a week a year will encourage him to sail beyond our week here but if the last day on the water was anything to go by, then things might just change.

I’m a fan of using SUP’s for windsurfing, windSUPing would be a better description” but having just sailed with both the boys on windSUP’s I definitely believe they are here to stay. Apart from being more fun that a regular beginner board, you can actually cruise somewhere on them and as Aaron was keen to point out, in light wind he could give his dad a run for his money.

My boys are typical brothers and wind each other up at every opportunity but windSUPing not only settled them down, they were actually helping each other, hell, I might have to get a couple of extra windSUP’s for home.
