There are times when you know you shouldn’t but the forecast was just too good to resist. This was supposed to be a weekend at home or at least that’s what the wife said before Windfinder threw up another plan. The way the weather keeps changing its been hard to find predict more than a couple of days ahead, let alone string two home grounds back to back.
Looking at “how was it for you” on the Boards forum you’ll see Bigbury was a favourite for many this weekend, fortunately also worked in well with a “home ground” I’ve been planning for nearly a year. Stuart Hookway will confirm they take a little more planning than just watching the weather, particularly when you have to factor in the tide with who can nip out of work at a moments notice.
Though its people like Stuart that have not only made my “home grounds” possible but enjoyable. Putting the decision into the hands of a local is the only way to go, I’m often asked “where next” but that’s the point, I don’t know. I’m not saying every beach we visit will amaze at first sight but its when you get into the detail that you realise those who headed to Bigbury at the weekend of actually in the minority.
Sure, I’d opt for a wave anytime of the week and looking at the numbers on the water you’d think everyone was the same but that’s the beauty of windsurfing, it’ll cater for every ones taste, experience and age, and the last few days been a great eye opener for what’s available if you open you eyes.
