Surprise

16/09/2010

My head had hardly hit the pillow after the National Windsurfing Festival at the weekend and I was off to the airport again but with WindFest just five days away it looked like I’d be in the air more that the water. We’ll what a welcome surprise, I’d arrived at the perfect moment, and time enough to catch up with old friends before the wind took our attention.

Christof Kirchner used to be the international sales manager for F2 back in the day and if it wasn’t for his help and persuasion I don’t think I would have ever started Whiteboarders. Times moved on and while they were great years we’ve taken different paths since, though there was never a chance it wouldn’t involve windsurfing.

I guess Christof showed me this spot at least eleven years ago, nothing much was going on back then, the place looked great for a little speed sailing, though they kept calling it there wave spot. Sure, there was a little onshore wave the other side of the beach but at that time I was just focused on speed.

Guess that hasn’t changed too much over the years but this year I’ve been trying to play a little more in the waves, so if I’m honest I wasn’t in a rush to find flat water. Shouldn’t have worried, there really is a wave beach and good waves one at that. Its onshore but wow, how spaced out they are, kind of broke me getting back on the plane, would have loved another few days but I’m sure I’ll make it back to Christof’s Pro Centre again.

Not coming back wasn’t an option, haven’t seen the wife for ages, so much so she even agreed to camp out in the van at WindFest, its only taken ten years…
