Perfection

13/04/2010

After last week I said it seemed impossible to take a bad shot at Jaws, I just wish that were true for everywhere on Maui. The action at Ho’okipa is so close in my 600 lens seems to big and to make it harder the guys throw a lot more moves than I’ve photographed before. It’s a learning curve and I’ve got a long way to go but having my camera break down isn’t helping.

Watching at Ho’okipa is truly inspiring and it’s not jus the world’s pro’s that go big, everyone is going for it. I haven’t taken many wave sailing shots in the past, or at least not with so much movement on the wave, following out in the distance ripping is so much easier than these guys who are using the wave from top to bottom and super close in.

Given the choice I’d opt for a 300 or 400, just backing out a little would make the tracking easier and show a bit more wave but then I’m not going to be shooting Maui very often so I’ll not rush out and get a new lens.

Not sure what to do with the camera, kind of broken over that as I love the colours from the 5D and being a full size chip it was allowing be to step back from the action a little, at least this justifies to the wife why I needed a second camera… oops, that was the second camera.
