Keep it coming

I can’t remember when I spent so much time in the UK as this year and what a year to do it. I know the wind Patten this month is off the hook but this year has to go down as one of the all time greats. I haven’t kept count, but I don’t recall many weeks where couldn’t get out on the water, and this week was no exception.

I’ve never found a sport that’s so addictive as windsurfing; on or off the water it captures the whole of you. You’d think hurtling down Snetterton’s back strait on your bike at 160mph plus with a lefthander rapidly approaching would focus the mind, sure it has your attention at the time, but how quickly the feeling fades.

Windsurfing on the other hand can fire you up one day and you’re still living on it weeks later, or at least that’s what I thought. What I realise now is that’s true for times when the wind is sparse, but the way it is right now just leaves you needing more.

Seeing the tree’s bending and not being by the water drives me crazy, and yes I do appreciate how lucky I am, but that doesn’t stop the wanting. Having to attend a meeting Monday midday with a howling forecast I knew the concentration levels would be down so headed off at 6am to find the closest beach.

I thought it was we windsurfers who couldn’t concentrate when it’s windy but judging by the tailbacks on the roads we’re not the only ones. With accidents blocking my every turn that early advantage kept fading until it left me at a table without even getting wet, thankfully, they kept me away from the windows.

If only there were a few more insomniac around, then we’d be able to keep daylight hours for getting on the water.  Basically I think I’ve found my perfect job, one that can be done in those windless moments or at the dead of night, and when it’s windy, well I can just tell the wife, sorry I was at work.
