Super sunday

02/11/2009

Think just about every part of the country had it windy but rainy, though that didn’t spoil the fun. Being bolt on shore at Clacton we headed for Point Clear for an early start, well I guess that’s the bonus of winter, early isn’t so early. While the wind built the kites were a good warm up for the real thing, an hour later and I was hanging on to a 5.3.

Southerly never brings great jumping for us so it was much more of a blasting day and with this angle it couldn’t be easier to run up the side of Mersea Island to see who was out. Chippy Dave, Shaun, Adrian, Anthony and myself headed up, though Anthony still wouldn’t put his kite down.

Considering we’d been out for three hours already I was surprised by how few were out, normally I’d say Mersea get the most sailors, god knows why the water state has to be the worst in the UK. That said there a good bunch of guys who run the club and the welcome is always warm, so I guess that’s the reason so many head down there.

The run back was way more interesting as the boys just wouldn’t or couldn’t get off the wind and took them an age to get back. Half way I’d had enough and took off to try out another board and ended the day having sailed five different ones.

You’ll notice the pictures have no correlation to our weekend, was going to take my camera out but having just forked out over seven hundred repairing my lens after it’s last outing in the rain. Obviously I could have taken my waterproof camera out, but again I made another mistake.

Peter Hart and technology just don’t go together, so why did I lend it to him. Better still his memory is also failing and had forgotten about telling me how the camera needed a winder angle lens when on the mast top, before explaining it never worked when he got it, but then I know a few that will nodding in agreement when that read this.

Adrian took his, but as you can see from the end pix the water misted up his lens, as for the other there’s just a bunch I haven’t used over the last few week, hopefully next week will be better.
