Been a funny old week, with the weather forecast promising all sorts but delivering very little. Even at weeks it didn’t really come together for the start of Weymouth Speed week, though sometimes that’s not a bad thing for this annual gathering. This is like a pilgrimage and while we all have a need for speed, the beach banter and mad scientists really make this a true event.
Ant Baker may not win a Noble prize, but he’s found a great direction with his no wind clinic approach, so while most of the entrants took time to catch up he soon had our crew out on the water. If you can already windsurf you’d be forgiven for thinking this is just a waist of time, I confess to having similar thoughts from time to time, but watching the progression in everyone’s rig and body control soon puts that to rest, nothing beats doing it than doing it.
Sunday looked promising even if the sky’s were a little grey, but having seen nothing better on the horizon I stayed ashore to get a few pix before heading out for the final hour, shame they closed the course an hour early to leave me with one less than average run down the course.
To be honest I wasn’t disappointed, I get more than my fair share of time on the water and looking through my lens gives me a close look at what’s happening on the water, and our crew were doing well. But if you want real motivation you should see the kids, there fleet gets bigger every year and it they who really show that speed is for everyone.
You may have noticed I’m a bit later with this blog, I’ll keep most of the details for next week but while there’s no sign of wind this has been a big week, big enough to make me forget to write this, dam, these nights out in Weymouth can be good J
