Having had so much success exploring the UK for my Boards beach guide it seemed only natural to stay in the country for a holiday. With three families it seemed impossible to find one spot to suit us all, until someone mentioned a camping holiday. The realities of pitching a tent every night soon sparked our final idea, a motor home holiday, no packing up and a new spot we’d all be happy.
While the girls planned the where and when us boys went and picked up three motor homes from greentrees adventure store. To be fair there were a couple of months between these two events but as we pulled onto the drive reality kicked in, how do we pack this lot.
I could just about see how we packed ten bikes, three windsurfers and two kites into the motor homes, but the women wanted to bring clothes and all. Eventually we juggled it around and headed off to the new forest for our first taste of campsite life.
Dagmar’s greeting at the Roundhill campsite wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, all I could here her say was “you can’t go here, you can’t go there” as she scribbled across the map she was preparing us. Though to be honest it was the others that were doing most of the listening, as I was more interested in the conversation on my phone.
With all the uncertainty of last week at Boards we finally had new owners, Factory Media had taken us under their wing and were keen to catch-up with the team once I got back from holiday. Past experience told me I’d need a holiday after a meeting with the managing and financial directors, so swapped the cars of Beaulieu for a train and spent the first day in London.
Hell I couldn’t have been more wrong, this has to be the most inspiring meeting I’ve ever had, if anything broke me it was the timing. I’m a bloke and as any woman will tell you we can only do one thing at a time and while I couldn’t wait to get on with our trip my mind was buzzing with the possibilities for the future of Boards.
Now I’m prepared to admit you girls have a point, we do have a one-track mind, but if were talking stereotypes then our girls fitted in just fine. Obviously I watch the weather 24/7, and yes I know we all want to go to Cornwall, but if its sun you’re looking for we need to be a bit flexible.
Ok, lets cut this one short, after all it is my blog and the only time I can get a word in edge wise, but it rained and it…
This is our last morning and while the other sleep I’m sat here in the sun overlooking the water, to be honest this is how it should be and how it will be the next time. Yes, despite the weather this has been a great week, but what we learnt this week will make the next one even better.
Just because we have ten ideas doesn’t mean we need to do them all, particularly when they’re scattered across the country, next time we’ll do one bit of coastline at a time. But our best decision came at the end of the week when we finally realised while they call them mobile homes and upped sticks and headed for the sun.
Hayling Island wasn’t even on our radar, but not only was it the first time we saw the sun, but camping up on the see front with no do’s or don’t turned out to be just what we were looking for.
