Six hours on the water kicked off the fantastic week, but never expected it to end on such a high. Hanging on to a five meter as the sun goes down was the perfect finish to a week, but as the last few pictures will show, I’ve got a confession or two. While that Penguin was real we didn’t find it at the beach, we took it there.
We kicked it off with a bit of kitting while the wind started to build; by the afternoon I was full power on a five eight of Jaywick. It felt like the first real wind we’ve had, but as luck would have it I managed to be following the wind path all week.
Come Thursday I had a meeting I just couldn’t get out off but still wanting to catch some time on the water I headed over to Southend where I could leave the beach with just minutes to go. It’s funny how you can turn up at any beach during the week and you’ll never sail alone, I wasn’t the first out, but as I came off the wind saved my feelings and dropped for the day.
I don’t really want to give away my boards beach reports before they hit the mag, but what a great couple of days I had finding out about my next location. With the first two already out in print it’s starting to get easier to hook up with new people as I travel around.
It’s Friday and the beach is packed, and that five eight’s getting a real work out, but what I’ve come to realise is, I’m missing a good 95l board in my quiver, it doesn’t matter how many boards you have if you don’t have the right one. My Rocket 105 has been my travel companion, and while I love the Pocket 84, my 93 is less than inspiring, so much so it sits on the rack at home rather than take up a spot in the van.
I left my ELK’s home at 4:30 in the morning and headed to the beach to meet up with a few guys for a dawn breaker, we were a bit too keen and beat the wind to it so I used the time to find a few new beaches. The sea cuts you off at one beach at one spot, but it was one I needed to get out on before we headed on to the more popular Beaches.
I had a few hours off the water in the after noon, but this has to be the first time I’ve sailed three different beaches in one day. The last one is still my favourite in the area and I’m not about to give its location away, but here’s one on it inhabitants. At least this one really lives there and you wont find I’ve got pictures of it in my studio.
My last windsurfing picture certainly wasn’t done in the studio, though it would have been cheaper. It took three of us to pull these two boards apart, but at least I got to confirm that a good 95 can make the day.
