Tied up in Knots

09/03/09

Summer looked like it had set in this week, I’m all for blue skies’ but would always forgo them for a bit of wind, though I do wish I wouldn’t get so tied up in knots every time a tree moves. I always check windfinder before committing my self and as frustrating as it is when it doesn’t come through, there’s nothing worse when it does when it shouldn’t.

Coming from a sailing background we’ve always put the celebrations for day like Mother’s day until the evening, it’s good to have a mother who’s had her days on the water. But with Windfinder predicting nothing but blue skies I saw an opportunity to earn a few extra points.

We’d visited a garden centre, watched both Reece and Aaron’s football games, not that there results was helping me collect any points, but just as Reece was letting in I got the call “it’s windy, we’re heading for Jaywick”.

Try as I may frustration still takes over, I just need to be there. No sooner had I had a couple of subtle suggestions about getting back and the wife had sussed me out and I’d lost any accrued points.

With the drive back I was hardly worth it, but  Nik said he’d get everything out ready to go. I didn’t even look at the conditions, jumped into the wetsuit ran to my gear and hit the water.

How good did I feel going back to the wife with cap in hand, “ok, so you were right” some how they always are. That promised wind was nothing more than a gust in a tree, and I did nothing more than take my gear for a swim, its for this reason I wish I could resist this drug of ours, but then, if a few more kids got hooked on it, maybe the world would be a better place.

If you’ve wondering what the pictures have to do with this week, we’ll nothing, unless you read my article on Southend in Boards this month, here are just a few that didn’t make it.
