The weeks started with such promise, Monday proved perfect for windsurfing with two sessions, one in Clacton and the second in Southend, but as the weeks forecast improved, its reliability dropped. Though it was with mixed relief that Sunday ended in a whimper rather than the promised storm.
Clacton was a bit lonely as I went down first thing in the morning to try a few boards out. Got to be honest, windsurfing’s the best, but on your own it just isn’t the same. Looking for a bit more company I headed to Canvey Island with Wet ‘n’ Dry, not chance of being out on your own there, a really motivated crew ensure you’ll never be on your own.
Obviously I couldn’t get the camera out at Clacton, but it wasn’t till I was at Canvey I realised I forgotten to load it into the van, hence no pictures. But with the forecast I figured I’d have plenty by the end of the week, but the better the forecast got, the further from the truth it became.
We caught a bit of the light stuff on the kites, but just looking at the couple of pix we got, it was more like an assault course. Sunday was to be the best of all days, but as is always the case I’d made plans. Swapping windsurfing for football has never been on my plan, but sometime something comes up you can’t turn down.
A friend of mine used to be a pro footballer, and is a loyal West Ham supporter, so when I was offered a couple of tickets I couldn’t let him down. Actually Steve has also played professionally on the pitch, but against his team rather than for them, not that he wasn’t good enough to be on the team, think it came down to a sense of style, not sure if it was there’s or his, I’ll leave you to judge.
As it turned out I hadn’t have fretted, the only weather that came in on Sunday was winter. So Christmas isn’t so far away, and I’m sure the decorations will be out on the high street way too early again this year, but then that wont be a bad thing for a couple of lads I met at Weymouth two years ago.
They had an idea and just wanted to run it pass me, think I’ve put a few pictures on here over the time, but now they finally have the finished article. While it comes under head cam, its pretty much possible to set it up anywhere. I’ve tried it windsurfing and even had it up in the kite, and if you have a look at the website, you’ll even see my old mate Harty sporting the last round of prototypes.
So this testing thing is becoming a bit regular, and it seems it’ll last a bit longer. I’ve been invited to join the Boards test team for a couple of weeks in Egypt. Never been to El Tor, but having sent equipment out for them to test, I’m looking forward to seeing how they work it all out.
