When Harry Nass asked me to join the Micah Buzianis Speed Slalom Camp I was more concerned about the temperature than who would turn up. Nothing was as expected, Micah broke his leg and couldn’t make it, it is hot, but the air is so dry its a nice temperature, then I met Dirk Muschenich, an instructor form Germany, now I know why this camp was so successful last year.
It’s like being with Guy Cribb or Harty with a little bit of German correctness thrown in. The wind so far hasn’t been fantastic, we’ve sailed every day but mainly on big stuff, though I did get out on a Remedy 6.9 and a Rocket 105 just before the week kicked off.
I’ve never had a group with so many nationalities. With sailors from Austria, Estonia, Italy, Germany, Poland, Switzerland and the Netherlands its been a great time to keep the Olympic conversations going, with our past medal ranking I think they forgave me for being so patriotic. I may have been lucky no one turned up from China, America, or Russia, but I still have one phone call to make to down under, it’ll be great to catch up with Ben Severne J
As always it’s a mixed group of abilities and goals, while they were a great bunch of lads there’s always a stand out. Gutekmay not betechnically the best at the moment, but considering his age he will undoubtedly be a name of the future, no one could believe his age when he let it slip. At fifteen he has a great mix of ability and maturity that will maximise what only time on the water can bring.
The week couldn't have had a better ending, We were all invited to Elke and Harry's egypt wedding party at the new house, by anyone's standard this was one party not to be missed
