Wind, work and wife’s
30/06/08

She says it’s all about priorities, guess that means I’ve got them in the wrong order. I need all three, but somehow it causes problems when one gets too much attention, thankfully she was smiling when she said it, what a great week to be on the water. It may not have been strong, but we’ve just about had enough to get out every day.

Summer sea breezes have finally arrived, but it doesn’t matter how early we get to the beach we’re never the first to get off work. It been kitting weather all week, finally that feeling of impending doom has started to fade.

My jumps were higher when I first started, but then that was before it punished me, the drags and crashes gave me a little a bit more of respect for the kite. Now it feels like the kite is starting to go where I want it the high might start to come back.

Saturday was undoubtedly the best day of the week. We were out shortly after seven for a few light hours, then a second session with the stronger sea breeze in the after noon. Jaywick may be the third most deprived area in the uk, but with its huge sandy beaches and Saturdays blue sky’s, you would have struggled to have bettered the conditions any where aboard.

I was so good I almost felt disappointed as I packed in the evening for another speed week in Vassaliki. This first week is with family and friends. There’s fifteen of us this year, The Dowman’s got there first experience of windsurfing last year and are not only back for another week, but also encourage another friend of mine to come long with his family.

I used to work and windsurf with Mark Dunt twenty years ago, but some how he slipped away from windsurfing. Its going to be interesting how he gets on with the huge change in equipment and style. Last time he rigged a sail you had to tie the boom to the mast.

Nikyboy and Pam fill out the last two spots. Pam’s a Vass veteran having been out for a couple of seasons, while Nik is a Vass virgin. The flat water of Vass seamed like the best spot to see how his knee will hold up to windsurfing.
