Sometime you can sum up a week in one word, “broken” just about covers it. I didn’t find my form this week, but then the Rene Egli rescue failed to find me ether, a 560m swim isn’t the perfect preparation for speed. Luck wasn’t running my way, was playing tricks, absolute zero for the first three day, light for the rest and kicked in like hell the day after.
Messy would also describe the week well. With zero wind and 47 degrees boredom soon set in, Farrell managed to cook and egg on a car boot, it started out looking like a fried egg but ended up more scrambled, which is pity much how Farrell looked on his way home for the final party.
The speed course is set over a mile down the beach from the rigging tent, there are a couple of containers on stilts at the finish to store kit at the beach, but as my 6.5 and 7.6 can testify, there isn’t a great amount of respect for fellow riders kit. To be honest I was glad to see this event come to an end and have something intact to take home.
You’ll see from the pictures, there is almost no where that is dry, and is also why I haven’t any shots from the sailing. Just keeping my camera dry was mission. Now the event is over the wind look like it should return to normal, so maybe the camera can come out again.
Sotovento hosted many competitions over the last few weeks, the speed sailing and freestyle kiting rounded off a busy month for the island. The last party was with out doubt the best, nothing to hold back for, and everyone was out for a good time.
My lasting moment of the week will be returning to the apartment, the last couple of pix don’t do Farrell’s condition justice, there is a video, but that’s so bad it’ll remain in the private collection.
